Illegal fireworks brought across Wyoming-Utah border could result in citations, officials say

EVANSTON, Wyo. -- Evanston, Wyoming is overrun this time of year with people looking to get the biggest and best fireworks, but not all of those fireworks are legal in Utah.

"We are expecting some pretty big crowds, but we are pumped for it,” said Sami Messmer an employee at Pyro City.

Pyro City firework distributor expects business to light up from now until the Fourth of July.

Many of those customers come from Utah and because of that employees say it's their job to inform people about what they can and can't bring across the state line.

Those caught with illegal fireworks coming into Utah will likely be cited and the fireworks will be confiscated.

"If we do find fireworks in your vehicle, if we do see them during our traffic stop we will take those as evidence and you will receive a citation for that," said Sgt. Todd Royce spokesman for the Utah Highway Patrol.

You should check your county and city ordinances for a detailed list of what's legal and where it's legal to light fireworks.

Once you know that, there are a few safety tips featured in this video.
