American Red Cross needs blood to stave off summer slump

Officials with the American Red Cross say summer is the time of year when they see the fewest donations, and they said they are working to raise awareness of the issue so donors will step forward.

Blood can be critical to many serious medical situations, and officials said ensuring that supply is available can save lives and improve patient's prospects. FOX 13 News' Dave Nemeth spoke to officials and blood donors, including a man who donates blood in honor of his late wife--who received several units of blood during her time of need.
