SALT LAKE CITY – A man was booked into jail after he allegedly stabbed another man during an altercation that occurred just after midnight Wednesday.
Police responded to reports of two men brawling at 759 S. Jeremy Street, and when police arrived the suspect and several witnesses fled while the victim remained behind.
The victim suffered stab wounds to his arm, leg and stomach. Police officials said the victim’s girlfriend used to date the suspect and had a child with him. Det. Cody Lougy of the Salt Lake City Police Department said the confrontation began when the suspect drove by.
“He was driving by her area or where she lives at, seen his child out there, seen this male suspect near his child, he gets out, and the confrontation starts from there,” Lougy said.
Officials said the victim’s injuries are not life threatening.
Police found the suspect, identified as Emilio Johnson, hiding in a nearby shed. According to court documents, officers found the knife used in the stabbing along the path the suspect had fled, and witnesses identified Johnson as the man who had stabbed the victim.
Johnson was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, where he faces two charges of aggravated assault in addition to previous warrants for a pair of battery charges as class B misdemeanors.
