Utah National Guard embraces solar power

DRAPER, Utah – The Utah National Guard is going green when it comes to energy production, and officials flipped the switch Wednesday on more than 1,400 solar panels at the guard’s headquarters.

The effort is one of 10 similar projects of this nature scheduled to be completed this year by the state, and all told the projects will save an estimated $10 million over the next 20 years.

Gov. Gary Herbert was among those present as the system was activated, and he said the effort is an example of the ways the state can use more solar power energy production.
