SALT LAKE CITY – A man accused of hitting a child in the head with a frying pan is behind bars Thursday.
Salt Lake City Police Department officials arrested 43-year-old Tracy Gallardo Wednesday night near 951 N. Redwood Road.
Police were responding to a report of child abuse at the address just before 6 p.m., and when they arrived they found a 6-year-old boy with a gash on his forehead.
Det. Veronica Montoya, Salt Lake City Police Department, said officers investigated and determined the boyfriend of the child’s mother hit the boy in the head with a frying pan.
The child was taken to a hospital to be examined, and the Division of Child and Family Services is investigating.
Gallardo was booked into jail on a felony charge of child abuse, and police said he was also charged with criminal mischief because the man kicked the door of a police officer’s car.
