Roommate dispute escalates to homicide attempt, police say

SOUTH OGDEN, Utah — A 60-year-old man faces attempted homicide and aggravated assault charges after he attacked his roommate with a knife, according to police.

The two men live at 5201 South 1350 East in South Ogden, and investigators said the altercation began as a dispute over money. According to a South Ogden police report, Randy Jorgensen broke down his 53-year-old roommate’s bedroom door with a sledge hammer and attempted to stab him.

Authorities arrived, and the victim was taken to a hospital emergency room for a stab wound on his lower left leg.

Police arrested Jorgensen and booked him into the Weber County Jail, and officials said he told them he intended to kill his roommate. Jorgensen faces charges of aggravated assault and attempted homicide.
