BELLEVILLE, IL – Authorities are searching for the person responsible for shooting a cat in the face with an arrow.
According to KTVI, the cat, “MoMo,” narrowly survived the serious injury.
“I just worry that this might happen again and obviously somebody did it on purpose, because hitting him in the face, they had to be pretty close,” Belleville resident Debbie Hayes said.
Hayes said the stray cat showed up on her porch about three years ago, she started feeding him and the rest is history.
When “MoMo” came to her house earlier this week, Hayes said she was sickened by what she saw.
An arrow was sticking out of the cat’s head.
Hayes told KTVI she rushed “MoMo” to the hospital where veterinarians were able to remove the arrow.
She said the vet told her “MoMo” wouldn’t have been so lucky if the arrow hit him just an inch in the other direction.
Officials said the arrow was likely shot from a handheld crossbow.
A fund has been set up to help cover “MoMo’s” medical costs.
