TOOELE, Utah – A judge is sending the Tooele mother who accidentally killed her 2-year-old son with a fatal dose of Methadone to prison.

Jill Goff will serve one to 15 years behind bars at the Utah State Prison.

The judge also recommended Goff receive drug counseling and get her high school diploma Tuesday.

Goff previously asked for jail time and probation instead of prison.

Prosecutors in the case said Jill Goff made a horrible mistake by giving her 2-year-old son the drug and then compounded matters by not calling 911.Methadone Goff death Aiden

According to court documents, Goff put Methadone in a sports drink bottle at her house and said she then forgot about it.

She later poured some of it into a sippy cup and gave it to her children, including 2-year-old Aiden.

He had a bad reaction and Goff said she panicked; she tried to make the child vomit.

Aiden later died while taking a nap.

Prosecutors said they believe Aiden’s death was an accident but one that could have been prevented.

Goff pleaded guilty to second-degree felony child abuse homicide back in June.
