CLARK COUNTY, Nevada — Cliven Bundy’s son, Ryan, took his five children out of their Clark County, Nev. schools after school officials wouldn’t allow his daughter to carry a pocket knife on school grounds.
A dispute ensued between Ryan Bundy and school administration. Ryan Bundy called the knife ban a violation of children’s rights.
He said he understands the school’s safety concerns, but added that he thinks students are being treated as potential criminals rather than responsible people.
Administrators responded by citing the school policy, which states that a knife is considered a weapon.
Ryan Bundy’s father was the center of aweek-long standoff in April with the Bureau of Land Management after the federal agency seized his cattle.
Cliven Bundy was ordered to remove the cows by the courts since he wasn’t paying grazing fees. The seizure of his animals led to a series of tense confrontations with the protesters who came from across the country to support the rancher.
