SANDY, Utah - A Sandy man is now being held on a $1 million bail for allegedly beating, raping and holding a woman hostage in his home.

Police said the victim recently rented a room in the house at 563 Fruitwood Lane.

The suspect is 60-year-old Vratislav Roger Bilek, the neighbors know him as Roger.

He’s now facing more half a dozen felony charges, including object rape, aggravated assault, kidnapping and drug possession.

The neighbors said they aren’t surprised after not one, but two reports of violent incidents involving women at the home.

The most recent allegations, which resulted in charges, stem from a 40-year-old woman who said she was tortured and held hostage after using methamphetamine with the suspect, who she recently met.

“On Labor Day I was upstairs and heard all this crashing, glass breaking, it sounded like metal falling,” neighbor Karen Maestas said.

It was the sound of SWAT breaking into Bilek’s home after police said he met the victim at a Salt Lake motel Aug. 31.

“During conversations with him, she had went into an agreement to rent a room from Mr. Bilek and arrived at his home willingly," Sandy Police Sgt. Dean Carriger said. “During her time at the home, she ran into a situation where she was no longer free to leave.”

The victim said that after an argument Bilek tried to strangle her, saying he’d kill her if she tried to leave the home.

She says she was held hostage and sexually assaulted over several hours but managed to escape early Monday morning and ran to a neighbor’s house for help.

“I didn’t get a look at her, I only talked to her through the door,” the neighbor said. “She just said, ‘I need help let me in,' but I didn’t want to let her in because I didn’t know if someone was trying to case my house.”

The neighbor called 911 and the victim later told police, according to charging documents, “Bilek demanded again that she have sex with him or he’d kill her... J.B. later said Bilek grabbed a sledgehammer…”

Neighbors suspect the attacks have happened before.

They said three weeks ago another woman ran out of Bilek’s home naked, saying she was held hostage and assaulted.

“It was about 2 o’clock in the afternoon, her face was all bloodied,” neighbor Joe Maestas said. “She had been beaten and asked if I could help her, so that’s when I took her into the family room.”

Karen Maestas said, “She was pretty high on drugs and said she just said, ‘I just need some help. He’s gonna kill me! He’s gonna kill me!’”

Sandy Police continue to investigate whether the two incidents are connected.

Police said they’ve had a difficult time getting information from the alleged victim in the earlier case.

For now, Bilek is a suspect in one crime.

However, charging documents state the victim told police there are cameras recording bedrooms in the house with numerous VHS tapes.

Police said they hope other victims will come forward now that Bilek has been arrested, charged and is behind bars on a high bail.

Court records shows Bilek was convicted of assault in 2013 and was on probation at the time of his arrest, ordered to attend classes to deal with domestic violence.

Bilek will likely make his first court appearance on these latest charges Friday or sometime next week.
