SALT LAKE CITY - Prescription drug addiction is a big problem here in Utah.
In fact, for years Utah has led the nation in prescription drug abuse and overdose deaths.
Now there is a wide array of help available for those battling addiction and not just for prescription pills.
Utah support advocates for recovery awareness celebrate, advocate, support and educate Utah about the thousands of people and families in our communities who are in recovery from drug and or alcohol addiction.
September is National Recovery Month and promotes the societal benefits of prevention, treatment and recovery from substance use disorders.
This year’s theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Speak Up, Reach Out,” encourages people to openly speak up about mental health and substance use disorders and the reality of recovery.
It also identifies ways individuals can recognize behavioral health issues and reach out for help.
Recovery Day spreads the message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover.
