SALT LAKE CITY -- "When women succeed, America succeeds!"

That's the message House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi shared with a packed room during a business leadership luncheon for women Monday at the Grand America in Salt Lake City.

"What is the best thing you can do to grow the American economy? Unleash the power of women,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi spoke to the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce about the growing need to help women balance home and work through providing quality, affordable health care for children, paid sick leave, raising the minimum wage and equal pay.

“Why is it hard to think that that's not a good idea -- it's ridiculous to think that women should not be paid equally as men,” Pelosi said.

Local Hispanic women business owners say Pelosi’s words rang true.

"Women. There are so much they can do now, it's not so called a man's world anymore,” said Genevieve Romero, owner of Creative Times Academy.

Romero has owned a daycare business in Ogden for eight years and at times she said she felt alone and unrecognized.

But support like during these conventions gives her courage.

The USHCC conference wraps up Tuesday.
