4 superintendent finalists named by Utah State Board of Education

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah State Board of Education named four finalists for Superintendent of Public Instruction on Monday.

According to a Board press release, the candidates are:

• John Barge, current Georgia state superintendent
• Martin Bates, current Granite School District superintendent
• Rich Crandall, former director of the Wyoming Department of Education
• Brad Smith, current Ogden School District superintendent

The four candidates will take part in interviews to last one hour each on Thursday, October 9th. The interviews are open to the public.

The first interview will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Utah State Office of Education, 250 East 500 South in Salt Lake City.

Board public relations officials said they expect the new superintendent will be named the day after the interview forum.
