SANDY, Utah -- Firefighters in Sandy said calls due to falls are the number one type of medical situation they respond to, and they have launched a campaign aimed at keeping elderly folks who are susceptible to falling safe.
See the video above for details about the campaign as well as comments from a firefighter who knows from personal experience just how dangerous such falls can be. He said his mother-in-law fell while outside and spent about 10 hours huddled next to a garbage can in winter weather while waiting for help.
A fall can lead to other problems and create a chain of events detrimental to a person's health. For more information about the dangers of falling and tips to prevent such injuries, visit Sandy City's website.
