RIVERDALE, Utah – A man was taken into custody Thursday after he allegedly carried out an armed robbery at a retail store in Riverdale and threatened to "pop" the clerk if she didn't comply.

Lt. James Ebert of the Riverdale City Police Department said the man entered a Wal-Mart, 4848 S. 900 West, Thursday morning and picked up a Powerade before approaching a cashier and telling the clerk to ring up the drink. He then told her, “pop the till or I’ll pop you.”

The clerk noticed the man was motioning with a bag in his hand as if there was a weapon inside, and another customer said the man was carrying a sawed-off .22 rifle inside the bag.

The man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, and the store’s manager called police. Officers encountered the man as he was leaving and he initially refused to comply with police. The man was taken into custody after being wrestled to the ground by responding officers.

The suspect, identified by police as 32-year-old Justin Adams, was booked into the Weber County Jail. The man had warrants out for his arrest from both Ogden and South Ogden police.
