SALT LAKE COUNTY -- Utah Democrats were nursing some wounds on the day following the 2014 midterm elections.
They lost the Attorney General race and all four congressional races, but they still have a stronghold in Utah's largest county.
Chris Karpowitz, the co-director of BYU's Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy, noticed the phenomenon in the race for Utah's 4th Congressional District.
"Mia Love ran up a big majority in the three smaller counties in the district, but Doug Owens won by nearly five thousand votes in Salt Lake County," Karpowitz said.
