DAVIS COUNTY, Utah -- A lane split will take over a 1-mile section of I-15 in Davis County next week on both northbound and southbound lanes as construction work gets underway in the middle of the road.
The inside lanes will serve through-traffic, and the outside lanes will serve local exits.
Vic Saunders, Regional Communications Manager for the Utah Department of Transportation, spoke about the upcoming lane splits.
“There is a lot of bridge work that needs to be done, and to keep traffic moving on the interstate we're going to split the interstate down the middle, perform work on those bridges in the middle of that split and then traffic will go by in both directions,” he said.
The northbound traffic split will begin Tuesday and will affect the Bountiful 500 South and 400 North exits. Southbound lane splits will begin November 15 and will be at the 500 South exit.
“It allows us to keep traffic flowing," Saunders said. "We can do the work in the middle of the roadway where it has to be done, and once that work is done we'll take the lane split away and work on the outside."
