PLAIN CITY, Utah -- A Fremont High School student caught with a loaded gun Monday admitted he intended to shoot another student then open fire on the rest of the school, according to a press release from Weber County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old male.

It's believed that the suspect acted alone and there were no other students involved, the release states.

Officials told FOX 13’s Robert Boyd that it was another student who saw the teen with a gun in his waist band and reported it.

The school's resource officer detained the student after receiving the report and deputies from the Weber County Sheriff's Office and officers from several other agencies also responded to the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office the student was detained without incident, no shots were fired and it is not believed there are any additional threats.

Parents waited outside the school for their children to be released following the lockdown.

According to a statement from Weber County School District, the school was evacuated and all of the students are safe.

According to the release police will remain at the school throughout the evening to continue clearing the building. More than 70 law enforcement officials were on scene throughout the day as the incident unfolded.
