Police: SLC man arrested after threatening to kill brother

SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City man was arrested early Friday morning after he allegedly threatened to kill his brother and barricaded himself in his father’s home.

Police said the brothers live with their father near 300 N 1000 W.

Lt. Dave Craycroft, SLCPD, said a conflict started between the brothers when one of them was caught smoking methamphetamine. Police said the man who was caught smoking meth then became aggressive.

“He had been threatening to kill his brother. [He] said he had a gun and was going to shoot him,” Craycroft said.

Police were called to the scene around 1:30, but the aggressive brother left before officers arrived, Craycroft said.

“[Police] then told the family to call back when he shows up,” Craycroft said. “So, the officers left, then the aggressive brother came back. Police were called. They found everybody in the front yard. As soon as the aggressive one, the suspect, saw the officers, he ran into the house, locked the door.”

Officers surrounded the house and tried to get the suspect to come out. After approximately one hour, police called in a SWAT team.

Craycroft said the suspect opened the door to see what was going on shortly after the SWAT team arrived and officers took him into custody.

The suspect faces charges of domestic violence, assault and domestic threats.
