Parleys Canyon crash kills man, injures woman in multi-car accident

Posted

A woman is recovering and a man is dead after an accident near the mouth of Parleys Canyon overnight.

The Utah Highway Patrol said they were called after two cars slid off I-80 westbound at about 11 p.m. Monday.

Troopers got another call while on the way to the accident about a man hurt in the same area.

UHP said an SUV pulled over to check on the two cars that slid off the road when another car on I-80 lost control, spun out and hit the SUV parked on the side of the road.

Officials said the driver of that car was killed on impact.

The driver of the SUV was not in her car at the time and barely missed getting hit.

"If you do see someone on the side of the road, call 911; do not stop, do not get out of your car," UHP Sgt. Chamberlin said. "If you do stop on the side of the road, don`t get out of your car. If you're involved in a crash, get on your phone and stay inside your vehicle. That vehicle is the safest place for you to be, verses being on the side of the road and actually getting hit by a vehicle."

Troopers said high speeds, wind, snow and wet, slushy roads led to the accident.

Officials want to remind drivers to slow down for weather conditions.
