WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A 20-year-old man is in custody after leading police on a chase and fire shots at them in West Valley City Monday afternoon, according to police officials.
At approximately 3:47 p.m., a West Valley City police officer spotted a stolen vehicle in the area of 3200 West and 2855 South. When he attempted to make a traffic stop the suspect fled.
Police say the suspect, identified as Carlos Grijalva, crashed the car at 3162 S. 3690 West.
Grijalva got out of the car and ran from the scene into a neighborhood, police say. Officers heard shots fired during the chase.
Grijalva was caught in the yard of a nearby home. A revolver was also recovered in the same yard, according to a tweet from West Valley City police.
Two empty shell casings were found at the scene.
Grijalva was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on two counts of attempted aggravated murder, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, possession of a firearm with removed serial number and fleeing from police.
