SALT LAKE CITY – They received multiple calls about the structure fire near 20th East and 18th South in Salt Lake City.

Investigators say when they got to the scene a garage, as well as a light pole behind it, had become fully engulfed in flames

“When we arrived we noticed we had a fully involved structure and the power pole behind the structure was fully involved,” Captain Jared Bills said. “It was like the Fourth of July in the smoke; we had lines popping and arching and the smoke was all lit up over the houses. It was a pretty neat event but a little bit dangerous.”

Captain Bills said the garage collapsed and was a total loss but firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to three buildings that were within 10 feet of it.

Power was knocked out for the entire block and fire officials say rocky mountain power told them that it would take them quite a while to fix the burnt light pole.

Investigators said six motorcycles were lost in the fire and they estimate about $50,000 in damages.

No one was hurt in the incident.
