Steak Sandwiches with Au Jus Sauce
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef stock
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 teaspoons canola oil
- 4 boneless sirloin steaks
- 1/2 teaspoon steak seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- Salt and Pepper, to taste
Directions
- In a small saucepan, over medium heat, add the olive oil.
- Saute the onions and garlic for 3-4 minutes with salt and pepper.
- Deglaze the saucepan with the beef stock.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme and bay leaf cook for another minute, stirring constantly.
- Reduce heat and simmer for about 10-15 minutes. (Option: Strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer and then return it to the saucepan until ready to serve or serve as is.)
- In a large frying pan, bring the canola oil up to high heat.
- Season the steaks with steak seasoning, onion and garlic powder, salt and pepper.
- Cook to desired doneness. Let rest on a cutting board for 5 minutes.
- Toast hoagie rolls with 2 pieces of provolone cheese.
- Thinly slice steaks. Place some of the steak strips in each hoagie. Cut in half.
- Serve with Au Jus Sauce.
