LOS ANGELES – Police in Los Angeles have reportedly arrested a 13-year-old boy accused of stabbing a 14-year-old student to death in front of a middle school Friday, and the attack was reportedly carried out with scissors.

FOX 13 News sister station KTLA 5 in Los Angeles reports that 14-year-old Steven Cruz was fatally stabbed in front of David Wark Griffith Junior High School in Los Angeles around 3 p.m. Friday. KTLA reports the boy attended a nearby high school and stated it wasn’t clear why he was at the junior high school.

Saturday, police arrested the 13-year-old suspect, who has not been identified. The teen was reportedly arrested around 1:30 a.m. at his Los Angeles home.

KTLA 5 reports the stabbing occurred as school as letting out, and about 100 students and faculty present for after-school programs were kept on lockdown following the fatal attack. The scissors used in the stabbing have not been recovered.
