‘PetDance Film Festival’ features pets, raises funds for animals

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah -- Sundance may be the most famous film festival in the state of Utah, but it isn’t the only festival going on this weekend.

The PetDance Film Festival is specifically aimed at filmmakers who make movies with their pets, and the event is a fundraiser for Best Friends Animal Society. The event kicked off in South Salt Lake Saturday, and the festival accepts short, animal-themed entries from around the world.

The awards fall into four categories: educational, dramatic, funny and youth produced.

Chante McCoy, the director of the festival, said the event is about more than just screening movies.

"Well, today we're getting together and we're celebrating animals in film,” McCoy said. “It is a fundraiser for Best Friends Animal Society… We are going to be screening films that have been submitted from around the world.”

Pet-friendly sponsors of the event gave visitors information about pet adoption and pet rescues. Organizers said the event also featured activities like an animal psychic and pet related prizes.
