SALT LAKE CITY -- A former member of the Utah House of Representatives is throwing her hat in the ring to be Salt Lake City's next mayor.
Jackie Biskupski told FOX 13 News Thursday she is going to run for mayor, a position currently held by Ralph Becker, and she said she wants to give all children equal opportunity. She also said issues like improving air quality and offering support to small business and education are important to her. Saturday, she made a formal announcement, see the video above for footage from that event.
“Salt Lake City is a progressive city, but we have a ways to go when it comes to really changing the culture here and creating an environment where all of our kids have the same opportunities--and that’s the biggest reason I’m running for office,” she said.
Biskupski served in the Utah House of Representatives for 12 years between 1999 and 2011. She said her policy-making experience will translate into leadership to move the city forward, and she said the city needs a mayor who is vocal and visible on issues like use of force.
