CLERMONT, Fla. – Churchgoers arrived to find a dead cat attached to a cross with a message Sunday morning.

A woman who works at the Clermont Real Life Christian Church found the crucified cat with a message in red mentioning Bible verses; “Thou shalt not make my Father’s house a den of thieves. Read Matthew 7:3, you hypocrites.”

Officials said the woman took pictures, got rid of the cat and cross and called police.

The church released a statement Monday:

“We are truly saddened by this inhumane act against one of God’s creatures. While we have no idea what would prompt someone to do something like this, we are praying for them and for those affected by it.”

“With the anti-religious movement that’s going on today, you know, people just do not like Christ,” neighbor Victor Lopez said. “When you mention Jesus, you know, people get offended.”

Neighbors now have a warning for the person responsible.

“Unfortunately we’ve got some fools who live in this world, that’s all I can say,” Lopez said. “They’re fools and hopefully they repent before their time is up.”
