Salt Lake City’s newest library branch is also its largest

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake City Public Library System opened the doors to their newest location Saturday, and the new branch in the Glendale area is the largest in the system so far.

The new branch is located at 1375 South Concord and is near several schools in the Glendale community. The structure is nearly 20,000 square feet, which makes it the largest in the library system. It features a grand piano and about 40,00 items that include books, compact discs, video games, newspapers and other materials.

Andrew Shaw, communication manager for Salt Lake City Public Libraries, said books are only part of the equation.

“Often you think of public libraries and you think of books, and we do have a lot of books here,” he said. “But public libraries now are so much about providing a space for communities to come together.”
