BLUFFDALE, UTAH – A man died after he went prone on the tracks in front of a FrontRunner train in Bluffdale Wednesday evening, and the apparent suicide caused delays for transit riders.
Officials with the Utah Transit Authority and Bluffdale Police Department confirmed to FOX 13 News that a man laid down on the tracks in Bluffdale near the Draper FrontRunner station and was hit by a train traveling at high-speed. FOX 13 News first heard reports of an incident around 4:45 p.m.
Officials said an engineer saw the man get on the tracks but the train was moving too quickly to stop before striking the man. FOX 13 News does not generally report on incidents that appear to be acts of suicide unless the act has a broader impact to the public.
A bus bridge was set up to move passengers between the Lehi and Draper stations as crews addressed the scene of the crash. Officials expected the bus bridge to remain in place until about 7 p.m.
