Award-winning pianist performs for appreciative students in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY – Award-winning pianist Andrey Gugnin performed for more than 600 appreciative elementary and middle school students at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center Thursday morning.

The 28-year-old prodigy won the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition last year, and Thursday he performed in downtown Salt Lake City.

Gugnin has been playing since he was 7 years old, and he said he considers music a universal language.

“I think this is one of the best things in our world, in culture, the music, this language is beyond everything,” he said.

FOX 13 News was there for the performance, and w also spoke with Gugnin as well as some of the children who attended. See the video above for the footage and the interviews.

The Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition is held every two years in Salt Lake City, and the next competition is scheduled for June of 2016.
