MILLCREEK, Utah -- Police are searching for four suspects Saturday after a 15-year-old male suffered serious injuries in a shooting, and police said the shooting may have been gang related.
Lt. Justin Hoyal, Unified Police Department, said the shooting occurred in the area of 4090 South 300 East in Millcreek when four Hispanic males between the ages of 18 and 19 were walking south on 300 East and three young African-American males came up behind them.
Police stated that as the Hispanic males were walking, one of them turned and began firing toward the three and that one of the victims, a 15-year-old male, was shot.
"I just heard 'I got shot, I got shot, I got shot,' and I don't know where it was coming from; I'm assuming it was the victim," said Robin Belcolori, who was visiting her sister, who lives in the area.
The teen was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
So far police have only described the suspects as being Hispanic and between the ages of 18 and 19. Police stated three of them were wearing blue and one was wearing white. Hoyal said the teen suspects may be hiding at the nearby Monaco Apartments.
"We're trying to determine right now if they are in that apartment, or if they have left, or if they even went into that apartment to begin with," he said.
Hoyal said they are investigating to determine a motive.
"We do have information that it may be gang-related, and that's one of the things that we are looking into as a motive for this crime," he said.
Officials ask anyone with information about the shooting or the identity of the suspects to call Unified police at 801-743-7000.
