SALT LAKE CITY – A woman is in jail after a family gathering turned violent.
Authorities said a woman started arguing with her daughter’s boyfriend when things escalated and she smashed a ceramic mug over his head.
Police said family members tried to break up the fight at the house near 400 S. and 1400 W. Sunday, but the woman wouldn’t cooperate.
Officers said she then kicked a 4-year-old girl who was taken to the hospital with rib injuries.
“She was evidently in the apartment, wandered in from another room when she heard the commotion and the mother took out some anger on her,” SLC Police Lt. Eddie Cameron said.
Police arrested the woman and she is now facing charges of aggravated assault and child abuse.
Officers said alcohol was a contributing factor in this case.
