SALT LAKE CITY -- The Salt Lake County Republican Party said Utah is typically a fly-over-state for presidential candidates, so they are honored and excited that Carly Fiorina is changing that trend.

Fiorina is the keynote speaker at the Salt Lake County Republican Party's annual summer fundraiser Saturday night, and she is one of more than 20 declared and exploratory candidates on the Republican side.

The Republican Party said her background can be an inspiration to everyone. She started out as a secretary for a small real estate business and worked her way up to CEO of Hewlett-Packard.

"There is such a resurgence of inspiring women to run for office here in Utah; it's a perfect match for Carly, Carly is not as well-known as we would like her to be," said Suzanne Mulet, Chairwoman for the Salt Lake County Republican Party.

Fiorina has never won any sort of major political election. She was defeated in her bid for state senate in her home state of California. Her views are strongly on the conservative side, and she is pro-life. She is also the only Republican woman to officially throw her hat into the ring for president.

"I'm humble that she is willing to spend time with us, speak with us, and encourage women here in Utah as well as across the nation that they too can aspire to greatness," Mulet said.

The fundraiser is scheduled for the GOP Headquarters in downtown Salt Lake City at 6 p.m. Admission is $75.
