ROOSEVELT, Utah –The Utah County Attorney’s Office says Roosevelt police lieutenant Pete Butcher was justified in fatally shooting 36-year-old Kevin Norton.

Officials said Norton was armed with a gun and threatening to shoot when his wife called 911 in May.

Police encountered him in a residential area near Uintah Basin Medical Center, and officers used a Taser and two rounds of beanbags before they shot and killed Norton.

The city of Roosevelt will investigate the shooting before Butcher is cleared from administrative leave.
