Shriners Hospitals for Children hosts ‘Walk for Love’ in Salt Lake City

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY -- Shriners Hospitals for Children held their inaugural "Walk for Love" Saturday to raise money for kids with orthopedic conditions, and the event is also celebrating 90 years of service.

Hundreds of former and current patients walked or rolled 1.5 miles down 11th Avenue in Salt Lake City.

Doctor Kristen Carroll is an orthopedic surgeon at Shriners, and she said this event reflects the outcome of the care they give to their patients.

“There were three kids today I saw walking who I haven't seen walk before,” she said. “So for me that's a huge, huge wonderful joyous feeling: It fills your heart.”

Participants and their families enjoyed activities like rock climbing, carnival games and pony rides.

Shriners also announced its No. 10 ranking for pediatric orthopedic care in the US News & World Report.
