OREM, Utah – Orem officers are warning Utahns about video-chatting with strangers.
Authorities said you could end up the victim of a blackmail scam.
Police said they have recently received an increasing number of calls about what they say is a social media scam.
Officers said the scammers usually “dupe” the victim into video-chatting, or “Skyping,” with the suspect.
When the video call has ended, the victim usually receives a message from the suspect claiming they recorded the inappropriate video chat.
Authorities said the suspect then demands money from the victim or they will post the video online.
