SALT LAKE CITY — Police in Salt Lake City are searching for a man who allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend after she was lured from her residence, and the victim managed to escape from the car after being driven several blocks Friday night.

Police received a call from a woman in the area of 2700 South and 5600 West in West Valley City Friday night just before 11 p.m., and she told officers she had been taken against her will by her ex-boyfriend.

The woman told police someone she trusted lured her out of her apartment.

“[She was] was basically kidnapped, enticed out of her home by a friend–and a relative of her ex-boyfriend–and then when she got out of her house and was going to meet up with this person she trusted, her ex-boyfriend forced her into the car and took off driving,” said Lt. Andy Oblad of the Salt Lake City Police Department.

The man drove a few blocks before the woman was able to jump out of the car and run somewhere to call for help.

Officers said the victim suffered minor injuries.

“She had some superficial injuries from being detained against her will, but she’s OK,” Oblad said.

The suspect, Sarounn Ren, is described as a male Pacific Islander who is 26 or 27 years old. Police stated he also goes by the name “Johnny.”

Anyone with information about Ren’s whereabouts or the alleged abduction is asked to contact Salt Lake City police.
