Utah GOP director resigns

SALT LAKE CITY — The executive director of the Utah Republican Party is resigning to lead Orange County, California’s GOP party.

Julian Babbitt announced his resignation in a statement issued by the Utah GOP late Thursday.

“Having helped steer the Party through two conventions, a successful 2014 general election cycle, and valuable technological and data improvements, I felt this was the best time to transition and move my wife and I back to California, something we had planned to do for some time,” Babbitt said in the statement. “I love the great state of Utah and am honored to have played a role in our Party’s success over the last election cycle.”

The Utah GOP said it would begin a search for a replacement immediately.
