PROVO, Utah – The situation started with a woman threatening a family member with a knife and ended with her telling police to shoot her.

Officer said a distraught woman called police from the Boulders Apartment complex near 750 S. and 650 W. just before 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Dispatch said the call was very chaotic and difficult to understand.

Officials said the caller quickly hung up but said her child had been stabbed before the call was disconnected.

When officers arrived, they found 22-year-old Marina Widdicombe holding a knife to a woman’s throat.

An officer told her to drop the knife she was holding against her 24-year-old relative’s neck and Widdicombe said, “Shoot me or I’m going to stab her.”

The officer tried to talk down Widdicombe but she continued to yell, “Just do it.”

Another officer arrived and Widdicombe put down the knife to try to get the victim into the bed of a pickup truck.

That’s when an officer was able to grab the victim away from Widdicombe and another officer arrested her.

Investigators said no one had actually been stabbed and no one was injured during the altercation.

Widdicombe was taken to the Utah County Jail for aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping.
