The announcement comes after three positions in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles were filled Sunday. Elder L. Whitney Clayton will serve as the senior president of the Quorum of the Seventy and Elder Gerrit W. Gong will serve in the presidency.

Clayton succeeds Elder Ronald A. Rasband, who was selected to serve in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

The new apostles were selected after the deaths of Elder L. Tom Perry, Pres. Boyd K. Packer and Elder Richard G. Scott.

Along with Rasband, Elders Gary E. Stevenson and Dale G. Renlund were selected to fill the vacancies.
