PERRY, Utah – Authorities are searching for a man accused of trying to kidnap a 10-year-old girl last week.

Police said the young girl in Box Elder County did everything right in the situation last Friday.

Officers said she was walking home from Promontory Charter School and was behind Three Mile Creek Elementary when a man pulled up.

The girl told police that the man said her mother had called and asked him to pick her up.

Authorities said when the girl didn’t stop, the man then offered her candy.

The girl then ran to her aunt’s house nearby.

“She told us that she knew that her mom wouldn’t send anybody that she wasn’t familiar with,” Perry Police Sgt. Scott Hancey said. “So we’re very grateful that there was some discussion before this happened and she didn’t get abducted.”

Officers described the suspect as a man with brown hair and a bushy beard.

The suspect was last seen driving a four-door silver car with a skull sticker on the bumper.

Police are increasing patrols near Box Elder County schools and say parents should talk to their children about the situation.
