SALT LAKE CITY -- One day after a man prompted evacuations at the Utah State Capitol after he left a rifle wrapped in paper and topped with a wreath in the rotunda, authorities have released the surveillance footage that made them suspect the package might be dangerous.
The Utah State Capitol was evacuated after officers watching the footage above became concerned about the suspicious package he left behind after having what appeared to be a moment of silence or prayer. A bomb squad was called in, but it was later determined the package contained an unloaded semi-automatic rifle.
The man, whose legal name is Cameron Crimefighter, contacted authorities after seeing himself on the news. The man was questioned and revealed the actions were a protest against gun violence. So far, no charges have been filed.
