SPANISH FORK, Utah — Authorities have identified a man killed in a motorcycle accident near Spanish Fork Saturday night.

The crash occurred a little before 8 p.m. when Utah County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene at 1200 E. River Bottoms Road.

Joseph Daniel Campbell, of Spanish Fork, was driving west at a high rate of speed and was unable to negotiate a curve and drove into oncoming traffic, the sheriff’s office states.

“Campbell lost control of his motorcycle, fell to the road, then slid underneath the front end of an oncoming pickup,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The three occupants of the truck stopped to help Campbell, who sustained extensive trauma to his head and the rest of his body.

The driver of the truck, along with others who stopped, administered CPR. When medical crews arrived, the determined Campbell was dead.

“The speed limit in this area is 25 mph and Campbell was clearly exceeding that limit,” the sheriff’s office states.

The sheriff’s office is working to determine if alcohol or drugs were also factors in the crash.

There were no other injuries reported in the accident.
