SALT LAKE CITY — Federal prosecutors have charged a 33-year-old Provo man, accusing him of bringing an explosive device into the federal building and causing its evacuation.
Brandon Bushnell was charged Friday with unlawful possession of an explosive device in a federal building. An affidavit filed with the charge said Bushnell was at the Wallace Bennett Federal Building in downtown Salt Lake City on Thursday for a hearing before the Social Security Administration.
Security at the building discovered the device in Bushnell’s jacket pocket, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives said in the affidavit. The device was known as a “cricket bomb,” the affidavit said.
From the affidavit:
Bushnell was taken into custody. He is scheduled to appear before a federal judge on Monday to answer to the charge. He faces up to five years in prison, if convicted.
