Snow will continue, locally heavy at times, into Thursday morning then taper off from south to north during the morning.

Accumulating snow will impact passes by late Wednesday afternoon resulting in locally hazardous travel including the evening commute over Parleys Summit on I-80.

Locally, slick and hazardous roads will continue through Wednesday night and into Thanksgiving morning. UDOT says they have 510 snow plows statewide and about 300 in Northern Utah where the heaviest parts of the storm are expected to hit. UDOT has 480 full-time snow plow drivers and all the ones located in Northern Utah are on stand-by Wednesday night.

UDOT says they’re expecting a lot of snow on the mountain routes and far northwestern valley routes with significant snow along US-80 over Logan Canyon, Interstate 84 near Snowville, and Interstate 80 near the Wyoming border.

Restrictions have also been put in place in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. As of 6pm Wednesday, four-wheel drive or chains are required if you’re driving through either canyon.

Those planning Thanksgiving travel should be prepared for difficult travel conditions and allow extra time to reach your destination.

A winter storm warning for heavy snow means that significant accumulations of snow are expected or occurring.

Keep a winter storm survival kit in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Check with the Utah Department of Transportation here for winter weather road conditions before heading out.
