SALT LAKE CITY - Police have arrested a man accused of punching a pregnant woman in the face and stealing her pizza Wednesday evening.
Officers said 25-year-old Joshua Paul Littlef Mike was intoxicated and harassing customers in the parking lot of a convenience store near 114 W. and 1300 S. when a 32-year-old woman, who is six months pregnant, came out of the store with a pizza just before 11 p.m.
"There was a man in the parking lot who was intoxicated, and he was trying to pick fights with people in the parking lot of the convenience store," said Det. Dennis McGowan of the Salt Lake City Police Department.
McGowan said that suspect then approached the pregnant woman.
"This intoxicated person approached her, saw the pizza, asked her for a piece of pizza," McGowan said. "She was decent enough to give him a slice of pizza in the first place, but it wasn't enough: he wanted more."
McGowan said Mike then grabbed the box.
"When he took the pizza box from her, of course she tried to keep him from doing so, and so he punched her in the face, so she sustained injuries to her face," he said.
Police said Mike knew the woman was pregnant when he allegedly hit her. Authorities said the woman and her unborn baby are OK; she had minor bruising.
The man reportedly ate a few more slices of the pizza and then threw the rest away.
Mike is facing robbery charges and more could be added as the investigation unfolds.
