CENTERVILLE, Utah — An 8-year-old Utah girl who recently underwent a mastectomy for breast cancer has been released from the hospital, and her family said it appears the surgery went well and the cancer has not spread.

Chirssy Turner was in the hospital Monday for the surgery, which was necessary to treat a rare form of breast cancer. Chrissy was diagnosed with Secretory Carcinoma in November.

Monday, the family said they were grateful to learn the cancer has not spread.

“It came back showing no cancer has traveled, so we are very, very, very grateful for that,” Annette Turner, Chrissy’s mom, said Monday.

According to updates posted on Facebook and a GoFundMe page set up for the family, Chrissy was released Tuesday.

The update states in part: “We are eternally grateful for all of the incredible medical professionals who have, and will continue to be involved in Chrissy’s care. Without their expertise and kindness we would not be taking her home today. And without the countless prayers, support, and love from family, friends, and angels from all over the world we would not have the strength to go through this. Our hearts are truly filled and overflowing. Thank you!!!”
