OREGON — The year 2014 will likely be remembered as the best Christmas ever for three children in Oregon who unwrapped the adoption papers that officially made them part of the family on December 25.
The video was posted by the Perks family on Facebook in 2014, but, with the approach of Christmas this year, the video is beginning to circulate online once more. The father, Michael Perks, told People.com about the video, saying they received the finalized papers on December 23–perfect timing in his mind.
“We thought it would be a good idea to put their adoption papers under the tree,” he told People.“We thought it would be a great surprise. It would be the best present that we could give them.”
The family said the children–13-year-old Corbin, 8-year-old Kierra and 4-year-old Damien–had been in their care for six years, so it was a special moment when their family status became official. The three siblings join the family’s four other children.
“You’re officially a Perk,” the father says in the video as he hugs his son.
“You’re one of us now,” the other kids can be heard saying in the background.
