Utah moms play Santa during trip to NICU

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY -- For families with a baby hospitalized at the intensive care unit, it can be very stressful—especially during the holiday season.

That’s why three mothers who have previously had children in the NICU decided to play Santa and drop off presents for families who currently have a child receiving intensive care.

Erin Koelliker, Jessica Olsen and Elle Stallings have all had their babies at the University of Utah Newborn Intensive Care Unit. Friday, the trio handed out bags full of baby items as well as treats for the whole family.

“As former NICU mothers, we know how hard it is to be here, and we think that especially this time of year, they could really use some extra love and some support,” Koelliker said.

Sally Wood has a daughter currently in the NICU, and she said they are grateful for the show of support.

“It’s really, really sweet that they would think about us around Christmas time, because it’s not easy being here,” Wood said.

Together, these moms were able to raise more than $1,500 over the past few months for the charitable act.
