SALT LAKE CITY — Jackie Biskupski, Mayor-elect of Salt Lake City, helped feed the homeless Thursday, and the dining hall where she volunteered says they are always in need of extra helping hands.
Biskupski made a stop at St. Vincent de Paul, where about 500 people were served lunch and another 500 people are expected for dinner.
Staff members are 90 percent volunteers, so the dining hall said they need all of the help they can get.
“We’re glad that she’s down here, to take a firsthand view,” said Dennis Kelsch, director of homeless services for Catholic Community Services. “I think that’s how she can make good decisions, when she sees the people who are here, the number of people we feed, the volunteers that are here, and that good we do for the city.”
Friday night, the dining hall expects to feed up to a thousand people with a traditional Christmas dinner. For more about resources and volunteer opportunities available through St. Vincent de Paul, which is run by Catholic Community Services, visit their website.
